Midway Like You’ve Never Heard It: Declassified Documents & a Candid Conversation

June is Midway Month.

Eighty-three years ago, the course of the Pacific War turned on a knife’s edge during the Battle of Midway—a victory shaped by intelligence, timing, and the courage of U.S. Navy pilots and commanders.

In this special anniversary interview, I had the pleasure of joining PatZi with Joy on Paper Live! to reflect on the legacy of the battle—and to share how newly declassified documents reveal a deeper, more complex story than many realize.

We explore:

  • How Admiral Nimitz’s battle plan for concentration of force wasn’t executed
  • How Japanese command decision delays led to their defeat.
  • How Enterprise air group commander’s decisions saved the day.
  • How Admiral Spruance nailed down the victory.
  • How the Battle of Midway affects the world today.
